General Information
The opportunity to use a state vehicle come with a responsibility and a trust. the Motor Pool operation is funded with public dollars. the Motor Pool vehicles bear the state seal and official plates. The markings represent the authority and dignity of the State of Utah.
All of us who use state vehicles have a responsibility to observe and respect traffic laws and to demonstrate courtesy and exemplary driving skills on the road. The presence of a state vehicle on the highway or parked at a location sends a message to the citizens that the driver of the vehicle is on an errand of official business. Good judgment must always be used to see that vehicles are used and operated ina manner that is consistent with the official business for which they are authorized.
The state discourages transporting family members in state vehicles. The presence of spouses and children send a message of inconsistency with the use of state vehicles for official business. If an employee has a responsibility to attend a conference or meeting outside their regular work area and wishes to have familymembers included on the trip, a private vehicle should be used and the appropriate business mileage billed to the state.
